Transferred from Palmeiras to rivals Vasco da Gama in December '99. Played for Brazil at France '98, although he did not always look to secure. Joined Palmeiras from Flamengo in July '98, leaving Rio de Janeiro because he said he was fed up with the anarchic way football is run there. An undoubtedly gifted defender who has to battle against a temperament that causes him to lash out on the field.
Highly unpredictable, sometimes looks elegant and assured while at others makes basic mistakes and commits ugly fouls. Once banned for 10 games in the Bundesliga after punching an opponent and was also sent off for Brazil in a CONCACAF Gold Cup game against Jamaica in February '98. Likes to go forward when the chances arises.
