  • A Road warrior carrying case for the MC16
How to make a carrying case for the MC16 and a mobile telephone in such a way that the MC16 allways is ready for surfing, for example when you are riding a buss.
  • Why did I want a case like this in the first place ?
Well, I was annoyed with the case that came with the MC16, firstly because it had no zipper to seal it, and secondly because there was no space in it for a cellular phone beside the MC16, and thirdly because I thought iwould be cool to read my e-mail on the bus, but without this special case you have to balance the MC16 on one knee, and the phone on the other, which seemed risky...
So I decided to design a case of my own.
  • The Case itself
I found that Filofax had a cower for their calenders which was sealed by a zipper, and it seemed to have the right dimensions. I bought it and removed the binder mechanics of it, and luckiliy enough it showed that it was big enough for both the MC16 and the cellular phone.
  • How to keep the MC16 and the cellular phone from falling out of the case
Next step was to find some self adhesive velcro tape, and glue a lot of it to the inside bottom of the cover, and of course to the bottom of the MC16 and to the cellular phone.
  • And finally, how to make them see each other in the eyes ?
The last problem was that the IR-eye of the phone and the IR-eye of the MC16 didn´t face each other
while they were on place in the case. I found that if I cut out a piece of white cardboard and arranged it in the case (with more velcro) so that the light from the MC16 was reflected from it towards the phones eye, it was enough to provide communication between the units.
  • Well, does it work then ?
Yes ! I´ve tried it while riding in a buss between Stockholm and Uppsala, and it was no problems at all to surf or handle e-mail and faxes from the buss. It was every bit as cool as I´d thought it would be :-)
