- Unofficial MC16 FAQ
- Where
can I buy an MC16 in Stockholm ?
I bought mine at Mobilcompaniet
on Sveavägen,
they have given me very good service
there, I recommend them.
- Is
there a less expensive alternative ?
The HP360LX is the same machine,
but it lacks some Ericsson software in
the ROM, which enables the MC16 to
connect to an Ericsson telephone through
the
IR-port, and allso to edit the telephone
register in the MC16.
Blijenburgh Data KB are known for their
low prices on HP handheld computers.
- Is
it possible to convert an HP360LX to an
MC16 ?
Practically speaking No.
Theoretically It might be possible to buy
a broken MC16 and use its ROM-module,
or copy the programming to a new
ROM-module, and insert it in the HP360LX.
However, there might be other diferences
between the machines allso.
- Can
the MC16 synchronize calendars with Lotus
Notes ?
Only if you buy some aditional
software, like the following examples.

http://www.riverrun.com/ais
http://www.extendedsystems.com/products/enterprise/
- When I try to
connect the MC16 to my PC, the automatic
dial-up procedure starts, and the PC
tries to connect to my Internet Provider,
thereby interrupting the connection and
synchronization procedure. What can I do
to solve this problem ?
If you have Windows 98 on your
PC, and use a modem to connect to
Internet;
change the settings in: Settings/Controll
Panel/Internet/Connection
from: "Connect to Internet with a
modem"
to: "Connect to Internet through the
local network"
You lose the automatic dial up when
connecting to Internet, but it is the
only way I know to get around this
problem. It is a good example of lousy
programming from Microsoft...
- When the sun is
really bright, the IR-link between the
MC16 and the Ericsson phone stops
working, how can I connect to the phone
in bright sunlight ?
Buy the cable that is used
instead of an IR-link in the Ericsson
MC12 computer,
it works with the MC16 allso. The price
is about 20$. Don´t try to make a cable
yourself, the cable is more complicated
than it looks. The connector housing of
the connector that plugs into the phone
contains a lot of electronics for level
shifting etc...
